Get ready for a major moment in White Mountains history!
This fall marks the final season for the iconic, second-generation Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway (affectionately known for its “ketchup and mustard” cars!) before it officially retires to make way for a state-of-the-art replacement!
A Look Back at a Legend:
- The history here is massive: Cannon Mountain launched the first passenger aerial tramway in North America in 1938, paving the way for the ski industry and tourism in New Hampshire.
- The current tram, which opened in 1980, has been a beloved fixture for 45 years, carrying over nine million passengers to the 4,080-foot summit! It’s an integral piece of the Franconia Notch experience.
The Next Chapter:
- Following the end of the 2025 foliage season, the tram will close as planning for a third-generation tram system begins. Cannon will be the only mountain in North America to reach a third-generation tram!
- While service will be paused during construction (likely for a few years), this investment ensures the tram’s legacy continues with a modern, safe, and efficient system for future generations.
Last Call for a Classic Ride!
- The final day of public operation for the current tram is scheduled for Sunday, October 26th!
- We encourage everyone to book your tickets ASAP for one last chance to ride this piece of history and take in the spectacular fall foliage views from the summit.
