At Littleton Chevrolet, supporting the incredible educators who shape our community’s future is one of the highest privileges we have. Teachers do so much more than deliver daily instruction…they build the foundations of character, curiosity and confidence for our young people. That is why we are so thrilled to celebrate Melissa Taylor of the Good Shepherd Catholic School, one of the winners of our Littleton Chevrolet Teacher Giveaway!
Melissa currently brings her deep dedication and creative energy to teaching 2nd and 3rd Grade Language Arts. If you have ever stepped inside a truly exceptional classroom, you know that the learning environment plays a massive role in a child's success. Melissa understands this on a profound level. Nine months out of the year, her classroom serves as a second home and she selflessly invests incredible amounts of her own time and personal resources to craft a warm, comfortable and inviting space. For Melissa, making her room feel homey isn't just about decoration; it is about creating an environment where students feel secure. When children feel safe and cared for, they are relaxed, open, and ready to thrive.
Her path to the Good Shepherd School is a testament to her lifelong passion for education. Melissa graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Elementary Education, specializing in Language Arts. After completing her degree, her journey took her through a remarkably diverse range of teaching roles before she eventually made her home in Northern Vermont. She gained valuable experience working in urban education at the Thomas Edison Charter School, taught at other innovative charter schools and served as both a dedicated teacher and administrator at the Ebenezer Preschool. Over the course of her remarkable career, Melissa has taught virtually every grade imaginable…ranging from two-year-olds all the way up to 8th graders!
No matter the need, Melissa is always ready to step up to any challenge. She has stepped in to teach Music, Middle School Science and Technology whenever called upon, adapting seamlessly to guide her students toward success.
When we sat down to talk with her about her long career, her eyes lit up as she shared what fuels her passion day in and day out: "I love when a student gets a concept that we are working on or the task at hand and you have an amazing 'Ah-Ha!' moment. I love having all the laughs and having fun with the students. It really makes my day so rewarding." That joy is infectious and her students feel it every single day. Recently, a new student came up to Melissa to share how happy she was in her new school and how excited she felt to learn, adding, "I only wish that my friends could come here and be as happy as I am."
A statement like that speaks volumes. It is a powerful testament to the transformative work that Melissa and her fellow educators carry out daily. As Melissa puts it: "Students want to learn and for them to learn effectively, you need to give them an environment to perform." We also asked Melissa about the modern educational landscape and what she would change if she could alter one thing about her day or environment. Her response was both thoughtful and grounded in her dedication to genuine learning. She pointed directly to the growing over-reliance on artificial intelligence in schoolwork: "There is too much reliability on AI. It is the easy way out and it is robbing our students of experiencing true creative writing, deep thought processes and overall creativity."
For Melissa, preserving that authentic creative spark in young readers and writers is paramount. So, how does she plan to spend her $250 Amazon Gift Card from Littleton Chevrolet? Naturally, right back on her students!
"My students love reading... they love the nook my husband built for our room. I am going to continue to buy them more and more books, as reading is the fundamental foundation to education and knowledge."
We absolute loved every minute we spent getting to know Melissa yesterday. She is a deeply passionate, immensely talented mentor and educator who leaves a lasting mark on every child who enters her room.
Melissa, thank you for sharing your history and your journey with us. Please know how deeply we respect and appreciate all of our teachers. Continue making your incredible impact, inspiring young minds and preparing our leaders of tomorrow.
Congratulations from all of us at Littleton Chevrolet, and have a tremendous school year!
